If you haven’t visited Portugal during the winter, it’s time to learn about what to expect!
The weather in Portugal is very mild. Autumns are drier and still warm, springs a bit wet and summers very hot. I can say that winters are the combination of these three seasons. The average temperature is 60 degrees Fahrenheit in December and February and 59 degrees Fahrenheit in January. There is very little risk of snow, and even that little amount is accepted by the Portuguese as gust of hot wind blowing up from Africa.
For many other nations this temperature in winter is equal to that in other European countries (Belgium, France, Finland), but this fact doesn’t mean that you can wear short skirts, bikinis or shorts. But this time of year will mean a complete peaceful rest. Besides, this is the cheapest time of the year to travel.
You can feel the sunshine about six hours each day during winter, one of the reasons why tourists visit Portugal all year round. The only disadvantage (depending on your point of view) of this country, I mean in winter, is the constant heavy rainfall which is caused by the Mediterranean climate. And if you are unlucky, it might rain for a whole week, although the temperature may be very mild.
So, if you find yourself in the airport, without anybody to take you home, and no raincoat or even an umbrella to protect you from the raindrops, don’t worry! All you need to do is hire a vehicle from a car rental Portugal agency and you will have safe protection from the rain during your whole winter stay in Portugal.
