The Incredible Coral Castle of Florida
Haven’t decided where to travel? Then I’m going to tell you about the amazing Coral Castle of Florida, which is worth to be seen.
The Coral Castle, previously known as the Rock Gate Park, is situated in Homestead, Florida. It is a beautiful stone structure with an interesting history.
The castle was built by Edward Leedskalnin who was a Latvian American. Edward built this castle alone and spent over 28 years on it. When people asked him how he managed to do it, he simply answered that it was not difficult.
Why did he dedicate his life to the Coral Castle? It’s another interesting story.
Leedskalnin was going to marry a beautiful sixteen-year-old girl, but she had left him a day before their wedding. Leedskalnin decided to move to America, to start a new life and never to think about marriage again. By the time he arrived to America he was suffering from tuberculosis, yet somehow he recovered very soon. Then Edward Leedskalnin started building the castle.
Whom do you think he has dedicated his castle? Once he said that he dedicated it to his loved girl, because he continued to love her. His sad love inspired a great work!
Today, a lot of people who visit Homestead, Florida, do not miss their chance to see this amazing castle. The Coral Castle is built of coral and oolite stones. The stones are simply set on each other and the only thing that keeps them together is their weight. Even Florida’s Hurricane Andrew has not shifted one stone. If you don’t believe it, you can travel to Homestead and see everything yourself.
There are many beautiful carvings on the stones of the castle, and most of them are easy to notice and recognize. You can find carvings of an obelisk, a sundial, celestial stars, a water fountain, 25 chairs and a table made in the shape of Florida’s map. Undoubtedly, it’s a nice work, and I was greatly impressed!
Finally, there’s one thing left to say: don’t forget to take photos, as you’ll never see such a unique castle elsewhere!
