Moscow The Third RomeCities like Moscow, the capital city of Russia, which are rightfully considered as luxury destinations, can be described with adjectives all in the superlative (most…, most…, most…). In Moscow there is even a club named “The Most.”

It is not by chance that The Third Rome as it’s sometimes called tends to be the capital of the whole world. As one of world’s most expensive cities and trip destinations, Moscow is home to hundreds of malls, hotels, huge markets and entertainment places and historical as well as modern sights.

This megalopolis is situated on the Moskva River. The country’s financial, economic and cultural life is centered there, though it doesn’t mean that the other Russian cities are not developed enough.

All the luxury from all over the world is united in this enormous travel destination with a population of 10 million people. Moscow is the most heavily populated European city. It is a multinational city — a home of 100 different nationalities from “every corner” of the world. Because of this fact, Moscow is not that safe to travel to alone. The huge streets of this metropolis are dangerous especially at night.

Moscow can be easily distinguished from other cities by its ordinary blocks of apartments of various colorful designs.

The traffic is really heavy. You will have big problems with long-hour traffic jams. To enjoy all the wonders of the city you should have a stroll. Besides, the city is best explored on foot. And you will miss a lot if you don’t use the subway.

The Moscow subway is the world’s second most used subway (Tokyo’s twin subway is the first). It is not only a means of transportation but also a kind of museum due to its magnificent architectural accomplishments and rich interiors.

You will definitely admire the numerous sculptures, reliefs and wall paintings in the stations. And the chandelier lighting makes the whole atmosphere of the subway look like a museum of art and design. Some stations of the subway are located very deep under the ground (during World War II they served as bomb shelters).

Gorky Park is a wonderful place to spend your leisure time. It once used to be Europe’s biggest entertainment park. The park will welcome all those who want to amuse themselves. The ferris wheel, different types of merry-go-rounds, boats, horses and tennis courts will be at your disposal.

But what makes Moscow really unique is the amount of cathedrals. There is also the Kremlin, though the St. Basil Cathedral is no less important and attractive.

The list of other “must-see” places and famous museums includes Bolshoi Theatre, Tretyakov Gallery and Pushkin Museum.

There are several streets and squares which will also serve as places of interest for the traveler. No one can miss the opportunity of walking along Arbat Street and especially Red Square.

Even though Moscow is a super-modern and luxurious European city, Russians tend to keep their identity and are proud of their history on the basis of which present-day Moscow was built. Enjoy your trip!
