MoMA: Museum Of Modern Ideas
I love New York for its being modern. Certainly there are many beautiful and modern places in the world, but in New York you see and feel the breath of modern ideas.
And it is not surprising that in Midtown Manhattan one of the first and famous museums of modern art in the world is situated — the Museum of Modern Art or as it is often called, MoMA.
Visiting MoMA has been very interesting and it raised mixed feelings in me. On the one hand there are exhibited works without which you can’t imagine the art of the 20th century–Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry night,” Henri Matisse’s “The Dance,” Jasper Johns’s “Green Target,” Pablo Picasso’s “Girl Before a Mirror.” On the other hand, there are many masterpieces by less well-known artists.
MoMA’s collection is based on the idea that contemporary art can be reflected in totally different mediums such as sculptures, films, videos, photography, architecture, design, and graphics.
It challenges and is always open to everything new. This principle alone helps the museum survive and never lose its uniqueness.
Since its establishment the museum continues to have an enormous influence on modern art. MoMA is considered to have the best collection of contemporary masterpieces in the world. It is a pioneer institution in collecting and exhibiting works of modern art, setting a real example for other modern art museums.
