Cape May: Calm And Romantic
Tourism in America is not limited to seeing New York skyscrapers, hot Miami beaches and other luxury destinations. There are small towns where you can have an unforgettable vacation. One of them is Cape May, New Jersey.
Cape May is located on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a little cold there in early spring and late fall, but in summer the weather is wonderful, especially for swimming.
Cape May is very popular for its Victorian style architecture. After San Francisco Cape May has the largest collection of splendid Victorian style houses. There are colorful and sometimes remind you of doll houses.
This beautiful town is a National Historic Landmark since 1976. Due to this the architecture of Cape May is very well preserved.
Keep in mind to visit the Cape May Fisherman’s Memorial. This memorial was erected in 1988 and is dedicated to all the fishermen who were lost at sea. The memorial includes a statue of a woman and her two children. There is an inscription on the statue that says: “He hushed the storm to a gentle breeze and the billows of the sea were stalled.” The ground on which the statue stands looks like a compass.
You can also see the only Coast Guard Training center in the United States in Cape May. Everyone who joins the US Coast Guard goes through a special training in this center.
While you’re there, you just can’t go by the Lobster House restaurant and not visit it. This is another reason why I like Cape May so much. You won’t find a lot of fast food. Instead there’s places that offer delicious seafood around you.
When the beach is not crowded, which mostly happens in spring and fall, walking along the coast can be very romantic. You’ll find extremely polite, nice people all around you, absolutely breathtaking sunsets and hundreds of shells spread all over the beach, which can serve as great souvenirs.
