Belgrade: The City Of Old And NewWhere to travel? This is a question that has millions of answers. But at some point in your life you get tired of the sea or the urban noise and traffic. Wherever you go, you see glass buildings and people who are always in a hurry.

When I wanted to get away, I chose to go to Belgrade, Serbia, and I honestly have the best memories from being there. You can still see buildings that where bombarded during the World War II and haven’t been reconstructed since. Due to this the city looks like a mix of old and new.

One of the best sights to visit is St. Sava’s orthodox church. If you ask my opinion, I will strongly recommend you to visit it both at night and during the day. At night many colorful lights fall on the temple and give it a marvelous and stunning appearance. During the day you’ll see the details and the colors of the temple more clearly. The blue roof looks indescribably fantastic with the white walls of the building.

If you are interested in science, you can visit the museum of Nicola Tesla. You’ll have the chance to see his inventions in action. At the end of your tour, you’ll have an opportunity to watch a documentary film about Tesla, his life and work.

For shoppers, the Kneza Mihailova pedestrian boulevard is the right place. There are lots of different fashionable boutiques and cozy cafes.

For archeologists and historians there is the Kalemagdan fortress, from where opens a fascinating look towards the joint of rivers Sava and Danube. In the fortress there is a huge collection of WWII military planes and jets that came from different countries.

And finally you can taste Serbian traditional cuisine in a restaurant called “Dacho,” where people are always very kind and ready to satisfy your curiosity.

The people of Belgrade are very hospitable and enthusiastic. If you take a taxi, the driver will most probably give you facts and history about the sights you pass. In English! Even if you meet somebody who doesn’t know English at all, he will surely try to help you in every way he can.

I hope I gave you an interesting idea for where to travel. When you visit this amazing city once, it’ll feel like home and you won’t want to leave it. And if you do, you’ll be looking forward to going back to Belgrade once more.
