Travel Destination Armenia: Part 3Are you an international traveler who is not into historic places and memorials, going into nature and other things like that? Great! Then you should stay in the capital city of Armenia, Yerevan, and enjoy the active flow of life.

In the mornings and afternoons, the city seems to be calm and relaxing. This is when you can visit a couple of interesting sites.

The first one is the Cascade, a Soviet monument that consists of 572 stairs that lead to northern part of the city. Along the staircases you’ll see small gardens and interesting sculptures. On the top of this beautiful monument you’ll find a full view of the city.

If you get tired when climbing the stairs, you can use the escalators. Visit The Cafesjian Center for the Arts that starts on the first floor of this building–just where the escalators start. The other exhibition halls continue upwards. The center includes collections of paintings, sculptures and drawings and is one of the most famous museums in Yerevan.

The admission fee is 1000 AMD (about $3). Keep in mind that the museum is closed on Mondays.

In the evenings, you’ll see a lot of young people gathering in front of the statue of Aleksander Tamanyan right in front of the Cascade (the architect who designed Yerevan).

Travel Destination Armenia: Part 3On Saturdays and Sundays, don’t miss the chance to visit the Vernissage. It’s a big outdoor market where you can get some fantastic souvenirs, carpets, jewelry and even a traditional Armenian outfits.

If you like the idea of shopping, you should walk along Abovyan street, which is the fashion avenue of the city.

When the evening comes, especially on the weekends, it’s time to take a walk around the city. Visit the Northern Avenue that links the Opera House to Republic Square. In the evenings, this avenue fills up with walkers, artists that offer you to paint your portrait and street musicians.

In summers, there are a lot of open air concerts organized in places like Charles Aznavour Square on Abovyan Street (in front of Moscow Cinema) and Lovers Park on Baghramyan Street (next to the National Assembly building).

It’s better to visit Yerevan in the summer rather than during the New Years events, because in summer, from 9:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., you can watch the singing fountains show on Republic Square. There is a loud music and colorful fountains that seem to dance under the music. This is a spectacular scene especially when it gets dark.

The best cafes to sit in and relax are Square One, Marco Polo and Jazzve. If you want to dance, visit Stoyka bar, Aftershock Republic and Kami disco clubs.

Don’t forget to frequent the numerous cool outdoor cafés located around the city, especially those in the park surrounding the Opera House.

By the way, some travel agencies organize city bus tours for travel groups to see the places of interest in this beautiful city. But I am sure that walking around in Yerevan will be much more interesting for you.
