No trip to Guyana would be complete without a visit to the Kaieteur Falls – Guyana, the massive waterfall that comes of the Potaro River located in central Guyana. It plunges over a beautiful sandstone cliff down 741 feet and then over some steep cascades that make the total height of the beauty 822 feet.

Those that visit this area fall in love with the beautiful and untouched rainforest that is all around these wonderful falls. The falls are right in the middle of the National Park that is located right in the center of Guyana’s rainforest. The Kaieteur Falls – Guyana is unique tourist destination in the fact that it is a combination of height and volume. It averages 23,400 cubic feet each second and this waterpower makes it one of the most powerful waterfalls anywhere on earth, it even rivals the Jog Falls found in India.

If you were to follow the river up from the Kaieteur Falls – Guyana, you would discover the Potaro Plateau that is part of the Pakaraima Mountains. The river eventually empties into the Essequibo River, which turns out to be one of the widest and longest rivers found in South America outside the Amazon.

When visiting Kaieteur Falls – Guyana, make sure that you are equipped with good hiking boots and the proper clothing. Remember, it is located in a rainforest and the weather can be hot, humid and wet and the terrain can be rugged.
