Cold Vacations In Ice Hotel: Part 1When you go on vacation, not only do the sites in the town, the events or the climate matter, but so does your hotel.

In fact, it can be one of the best attractions you’ll see during your vacation. How? Find out about the world’s most unusual hotels that will make your mouth drop.

For example, when still a child did you ever wish to be the Ice Queen? It would be absolutely wonderful being surrounded by tons of ice and snow.

The little village called Jukkasjärvi in the Swedish Lapland gives you the opportunity to make your dreams come true. And that opportunity is the Ice Hotel, which is situated on the Torne River.

Actually, the water from that river serves as the material to build the hotel every year. It is newly built each winter with new ideas and design. The sculptures and even the forms of the walls are so gorgeous that they sometimes even seem unreal.

The Ice Hotel includes guest rooms, the Ice Chapel, the exhibition hall, the Absolut Ice Bar and a movie theater.

There are two tourism seasons in Lapland. If you are a summer visitor (June 10-August 22) you can see the process of refilling the ice factory, which is basically taking the ice out of the Torne River and saving it in the factory. In winter the ice blocks will be used in the construction of the hotel.

You won’t see sunsets during this period of time. The sun stays high in the sky for 100 days and nights. The sun during these days is called the Midnight sun, and you will have to close your windows very tight so that you get some sleep. This sounds like a really long day.

If you are already considering this hotel as your future travel destination and want to stay there overnight, read about the winter season in my next post.
